About the CEMIG Service
Based at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Trust we are one of only 80 endometriosis centres in the UK that have been accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE).
CEMIG (Centre for Endometriosis and minimally invasive Gynaecology) is recognised as a Centre of Excellence for the treatment of women with endometriosis. In 2025, we were the 2nd busiest centre in the UK.
We also offer Neuropelveological procedures which can include exploring the nerves of the pelvis (neurolysis) or removing endometriosis from the surface of pelvic nerves and may include cutting part of a large nerve that is involved with endometriosis. Mr Minas and Mr Adamczyk have had formal training at the International School of Neuropelveology under the mentorship of Professor Marc Possover, the pioneer of Neuropelveology. CEMIG is one of the few UK centres able to offer the excision of endometriosis affecting pelvic nerves. As this is a rare and high specialist area of endometriosis care, referrals from outside of the local area should in most circumstances come from your local BSGE centre.
CEMIG has a dynamic multidisciplinary team that have the experience and knowledge to provide high quality, evidenced based care.
The CEMIG team understand the difficulties you face living with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain, physically and emotionally, and you will be fully involved with all decisions regarding your treatment.
We treat women with all grades of endometriosis, from mild disease to the more severe form involving the bladder and bowel.
All three specialists are highly skilled in diagnostics and in both the medical and surgical management of endometriosis. If your GP refers you to CEMIG, you will be seen by the first available specialist, and the surgeon performing your procedure may be a different member of the team. As we work within the NHS framework, we must follow the prescribed pathway to ensure safe, effective care and to manage our waiting list appropriately.
If you live outside the catchment area, please be aware that you may require multiple appointments for investigations, referrals to other specialists and preoperative assessments. Although we can offer telephone appointments, these may not always be suitable – particularly if an examination or imaging is required. If this is not feasible, you may wish to consider attending a BSGE centre closer to home.
We also offer a dedicated Pelvic Pain Service and you will have the support of an endometriosis and pelvic pain specialist nurse throughout your care and in the community.
Sharing Surgical Expertise on a National Stage:
St Peter’s Surgeons Live at BSGE ASM
On 2nd May, two of our CEMIG surgeons proudly represented St Peter’s Hospital at the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Leeds, showcasing their surgical expertise on a national stage.
Mr Adamczyk, Consultant Gynaecologist and Endometriosis Surgeon, and Mr Nissar Consultant Colorectal Surgeon performed a complex laparoscopic excision of severe endometriosis, including a discoid excision of full-thickness rectal disease. The surgery took place at St James’s University Hospital and was streamed live to the conference centre, where approximately 800 delegates attended the session.
The Da Vinci X Platform
CEMIG is delighted to report that as of late 2023, robotic surgery utilising the da Vinci X platform for excision of endometriosis and other complex gynaecological procedures is now being routinely performed on the St Peters site. Robotics is another tool available to the surgical team for the treatment of complex disease.
CEMIG Team Takes First at National Robotic Conference
Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Centre for Endometriosis and Minimally Invasive Gynaecology (CEMIG) was awarded first prize for their robotic work at the British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons (BIARGS) Annual Scientific Meeting which took place in November 2024. Our Fellow Sarah Rizeq presented on the joint gynaecology / colorectal / urology work using the da Vinci robot at St Peter’s Hospital and received the award on behalf of the teams.
CEMIG wins golden laparoscope for the 4th time!
ASPH’s Centre for Endometriosis and Minimally invasive Gynaecology team was a prominent presence at the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy’s (BSGE) Annual Scientific Meeting in April 2022.
Consultants Mr Matthew Erritty, Mr Vasileios Minas and Mr Shaheen Khazali as well as Specialist Registrar Mr Michal Adamzcyk all facilitated and presented lectures during the well attended 4 day conference.
Mr Adamzcyk submitted a surgery video of one of our complex surgeries winning the top award which is a golden laparoscope!
This was the 4th time CEMIG has bagged this prestigious highly coveted award.
Mr Shaheen Khazali won it 3x previously!
It was definitely a proud moment for the team!
Endometriosis Patient Support Group
About the Group
Our support group exists in order to provide information and support to women who suffer from endometriosis and their loved ones.
Whether you have just been diagnosed or have been living with endometriosis for years, these meetings are an opportunity to meet others living with the condition, to share experiences and to raise awareness together.

Meetings are held in the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Centre, St Peters Hospital, Guildford Road, Chertsey, Surrey, KT16 0PZ (see map).
The groups are facilitated by Luz, an Endometriosis Specialist Nurse, and a trained group leader.
